Zhibek Zholy metro station
A deep station in the very heart of the city, by the pedestrian “Arbat”, with an end-wall mural about the symbols of the Great Silk Road.
Zhibek Zholy metro station — Almaty
Zhibek Zholy is a deep pylon-type station (depth 30 m) in the Almaly district, near the intersection of Panfilov Street and Gogol Street. The exits to the underground concourse are on the south-eastern corner of the Gogol–Panfilov intersection.
The station has three halls — a central one and two side halls — forming a single island platform 104 metres long. Access up and down is provided by escalators with four bands and a rise of 28.5 metres. The interior draws on the decorative and applied arts of the Kazakh people: the walls are faced with beige marble mosaic, the arches and skirting with brown marble, and the floor is laid with granite bearing a national ornament.
The main feature is a decorative mural at the end of the central hall, shaped as two circles with symbols of the countries of the Great Silk Road: the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, the Egyptian pyramids, the Roman Colosseum, the Parthenon of Athens and the Ad Deir monastery. The station opens directly onto the “Almaty Arbat” pedestrian area.
