Abay metro station — Almaty

Abay is a deep column-type station in the Medeu district, near the intersection of Nazarbayev Avenue and Abay Avenue. It is the deepest station of the Almaty metro: the platform lies at a depth of 78 metres, and the four-band escalators have a rise of 46 metres.

The exits are set east of Nazarbayev Avenue, at its intersection with Tulebayev Street, on the northern and southern sides of Abay Avenue. Three halls form a single island platform 15.2 metres wide and 104 metres long.

The design is in a modern style without traditional architectural elements: the walls are finished with beige and brown marble, the floors with grey-beige and brown granite, and the cornice is of stainless steel. At the end of the platform is an artistic mural in the technique of bronze relief and “Florentine mosaic” depicting Abay Kunanbayev against a stone background with excerpts from his works.
