Baikonur metro station — Almaty
Baikonur is a deep column-type station (depth 20 m) in the Bostandyk district, near the intersection of Abay Avenue and Baitursynov Street. The exits to the underground concourse run along Baitursynov Street on the south-eastern and south-western corners of the intersection with Abay Avenue.
Three halls form a single island platform 15.2 metres wide and 104 metres long. Access up and down is provided by four-band escalators with a rise of 20 metres, and the south-eastern entrance is additionally equipped with a two-band escalator.
The station design is in a high-tech style linked to the theme of the Baikonur Cosmodrome: the walls are clad with metal panels in blue and light-grey, and the floor is laid with grey granite. At the end of the platform stands an advertising and information display — a “video wall” of sixteen LED screens.
