Alatau metro station — Almaty
Alatau is a shallow station in the Bostandyk district, south of Abay Avenue, between Zharokov Street and Gagarin Avenue. The entrances and exits run along Abay and Gagarin avenues and Zharokov Street, and a pedestrian crossing beneath Abay Avenue leads to the concourse.
This is a single-vault station with two side boarding platforms, each 5.4 metres wide and 104 metres long, with the rail tracks running between them. The platform section is 17.7 metres wide and 11.6 metres high above platform level. The underground concourses are on both sides of the platform section.
The design is based on the station’s own name and the ancient symbolism of the peoples of Kazakhstan. The walls are finished with white and green marble, the floors with grey granite patterned in light-brown stone. Above the descents at the ends are themed murals of Roman mosaic, bronze and relief depicting the Ile Alatau mountain range rising majestically above the city.
