Almaty metro tickets and fares 2026
A ride with the Onay card costs 120 tenge, plus the reduced fare and the price of the card. All fares and payment methods in one place.
How to pay for the Almaty metro
One ride on the Almaty metro costs 120 tenge whatever the distance. The metro sells two things of its own at the ticket offices and machines: a smart token (one ride, valid for one day) and a metro smart card (180 tenge for the card, up to 60 rides, and the rides stay valid for 3 years from the last top-up). The only concession the metro itself publishes is the child token for ages 7 to 15 at 60 tenge, on presenting a document proving the child’s age.
The turnstiles also accept the city-wide Onay card, and at the ticket office you can pay by bank card through the POS terminal. Cash is not accepted at the turnstiles — buy or top up before you go through.
You can buy an Onay card at cashiers and machines in metro stations and at «Karavan» kiosks. One card works for the metro, buses and trolleybuses of Almaty.
Fares and payment methods
Fares are set by the Onay operator and the Almaty city administration. Check current prices at onay.kz and metroalmaty.kz.
Who travels free
The Almaty metro publishes exactly one concession: the child smart token at 60 tenge for children aged 7 to 15, on presenting a document proving the child’s age. Since the child token starts at seven, under-7s do not need a ticket at all.
City-wide concessions for schoolchildren, students and pensioners do exist, but their terms are set by the Onay system rather than by the metro — check onay.kz. We do not repeat them here, so as not to present as a metro rule something the metro does not publish.
- children under 7 — the child token is only sold from age 7
Reduced fare
The child smart token, for children aged 7 to 15. Bought at the ticket office on presenting a document proving the child’s age. It is the only concession the metro publishes on its own site (metroalmaty.kz, «Оплата»).
