Who runs almatymetro.com, where the timetable and fares come from and what we deliberately do not publish.
What this site is
almatymetro.com is an independent information site about the Almaty metro. We are not connected to the Almaty Metro operator (KGP «Metropoliten» of Almaty) and do not speak on its behalf: we do not sell tickets, we do not run the trains and we cannot handle passenger complaints.
The site exists for a simple reason. There is one line and eleven stations, but what you need to know about them is scattered: opening hours in one place, Onay fares in another, what is next to the exit somewhere else, and which bus to take after the metro nowhere at all. We put it on one page per station and keep the source and the date we checked it next to every figure.

Where our data comes from
- ›Stations. Descriptions, photographs and running times in each direction come from the metro operator’s official API (
api.metroalmaty.kz), the same one behind the operator’s own portal. We do not rewrite anyone else’s text: the official data is the raw material, and the station pages are written by us. - ›Coordinates and what is around a station come from OpenStreetMap, matched by station name. If something is not tied to the station in the source, we do not add it from memory.
- ›Fares and the Onay card come from the card operator and the metro portal. Prices live on the Tickets and fares page and on the Onay card page, and they change only there: we deliberately do not repeat them across the site, so that the same domain can never show two different prices.
- ›Opening hours and intervals come from what the metro itself publishes. We report them as published and do not turn a range into a minute-by-minute timetable.
Every page carries the date it was last checked. Timetables and fares change, and a date is more honest than pretending the text is permanent.
What we deliberately do not publish
It would be easy to fill every page with plausible-looking numbers. We think data that cannot be checked is worse than no data at all, because the reader has no way of telling the two apart. So you will not find here:
- ›Live train movements. The metro does publish an open API, but it does not return live data: two requests one after another come back byte for byte identical, and there are no separate live endpoints. So the next-train card on the station pages is built from the timetable — and it says exactly that, not “real time”.
- ›The number and position of the exits at each station. The operator does not publish this in any consistent form, and inventing exit numbers is a reliable way to send someone out onto the wrong street.
- ›Passenger numbers for individual stations. What is published is a network total, not a per-station figure.
- ›The maximum balance of an Onay card or its top-up limits beyond what the card operator states itself.
- ›Opening hours of shops and kiosks inside stations. They change and there is no official register of them.
What is not fully known
The western extension
The section towards Kalkaman is under construction. Until those stations open they have no pages here and they are not in the fare calculator — they will appear with a real timetable, not an expected one.
Service intervals
The metro publishes the interval as a range rather than hour by hour. We give the range and do not present it as an exact schedule.
A similar address, a different organisation
The site almatymetro.kz belongs to JSC Almatymetrokurylys, the company that builds the metro, not the one that runs it. The operator’s own portal is metroalmaty.kz, and that is where our data comes from.
Corrections and contact
Found a mistake — an out-of-date price, a wrong hour, a station in the wrong place? Write to [email protected]. We fix it and change the check date on the page; there is a form on the Contact page.

How the site pays for itself
The site is free and is kept going by advertising shown alongside the content. Advertising does not influence what we write: we do not sell articles, we take no payment to feature a station or an operator, and we run no ticket affiliate schemes. If commercial content ever appears here, it will be labelled as advertising.
Who is behind this site
This site is run by the team at GoRandom, a small group based in the Basque Country in Spain who do two things that go together better than they sound: travel, and build websites.
We were in Almaty in October 2022, and the city guide on gorandom.es came out of that trip. We liked it enough to want to go back, and after enough hours spent staring at network maps and comparing travel passes this turned up: a site about nothing except how you actually get around here.
The other half of what we know how to do is web development, and this site is the excuse to put the two together. We do not leave it sitting there: every fare and every timetable carries its source and the date we checked it, and they get revised when the operator changes something. The last check was in September 2026: we confirmed once more that the metro’s open API returns a byte-identical answer to two consecutive requests — there is no live data in it — so the next-train card stays labelled as a timetable rather than as real time.
He decides what goes up, checks the data before it does, and answers the email. If you find a fare that has expired or a timetable that no longer holds, there is a specific person to write to.
